hawkfan, Dec 2, 2003 #3 $teve Joined: Oct 9, 2001 Messages: 9,397 these 2 are resource hogs.......The programs will still work when called for but this just stops them running when Click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files" We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it. If you downloaded the installer: Click Start > Program Files > HijackThis.Click Do a system scan and save log file. CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!! Good thing Spybot! That may be the reason you can't get it to stick.

Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . You can always have HijackThis fix these, unless you knowingly put those lines in your Hosts file.The last item sometimes occurs on Windows 2000/XP with a Coolwebsearch infection.
