You can't blame software for your crappy cooling and hot CPU. But then again I recently upgraded to an Antec 900 Gamer case, because I realised my old case (of about 7 years) was at its cooling capacity limit. That doesn't seem to be the cause for me. Thanks.

I've heard of other instances where getting too high a framerate would cause a card to overheat.

I do have all my drivers up to date with the cards. As far as I know, speed stepping is usually not adjustable on a laptop. Make sure that the room your laptop is in is well ventilated or air conditioned so that the room temperature doesn't negatively effect the temperature of your laptop.
